Once known as Medawaththa Walawwa
A restored century-old bungalow in the Kandy hills of Sri Lanka, kept quiet on purpose. Slow mornings, cool evenings, a garden that has not changed in a hundred years.
The House
Built in the early 1900s, the house was known for generations as Medawaththa Walawwa — a walawwa being the kind of ancestral manor that once anchored a Kandyan village. It stood quietly in these hills through colonial Ceylon, independence, and everything that followed.
We restored it slowly — keeping the timber floors, the high ceilings, and the verandah that wraps the house — while bringing in the comforts you would actually want today. Good water pressure, proper beds, and nowhere to be. You will hear birds before you hear traffic, and on most evenings the only sound is the kettle.

The Setting
A short drive from the Temple of the Tooth and the Kandy lake, far enough out that the air cools at night and the road quiets after dark.
